Join us this month on Thursday, March 15 to hear from Alvin Viral, Associate Director for the Invention Transfer Group (ITG) at UCI’s Applied Innovation, as he shares a university’s perspective on patents. Alvin’s group reviews new invention disclosures for patentability and commercial viability, sends them to outside patent counsel for prosecution, and connects with industry for licensing opportunities. He currently manages more than 300 inventions at various stages of patent prosecution.

Speakers
Associate Director, Invention Transfer Group
Alvin is the Associate Director for the Invention Transfer Group (ITG) at UCI’s Applied Innovation. Alvin’s group reviews new invention disclosures for patentability and commercial viability, sends them to outside patent counsel for prosecution, and connects with industry for licensing opportunities. He currently manages more than 300 inventions at various stages of patent prosecution. Many come from UCI’s School of Engineering, School of Medicine, and UCI’s Medical Center/Hospital. Alvin manages outside patent counsel, drafts and negotiates agreements for UCI’s latest company spinoffs and startups. He is actively involved in academic and community outreach and frequently speaks on topics related to Technology Transfer, Licensing, and Commercialization of new technologies. Before joining UCI’s ITG, Alvin was IP Counsel for Cengent Therapeutics (formerly Structural BioInformatics). Alvin received his B.S. in Biology from UC Irvine before graduating from the University of San Diego School of Law and passing the California Bar and USPTO Patent Bar.
